TRAFFORD MV narrowly lost their first pre-season game at Llandudno 32-28 on Saturday.

The home side ploughed into Trafford early on, using their big runners to breach the MV defence to ease into an early three-try lead.

Trafford stuck to their task and James Matthie opened their account as he outpaced his opposite number to touch down behind the sticks.

In the second half, with the help of a strong diagonal wind, MV tries came for Jamie Kingdon, Jon Lord and Boyle as they clawed their way back into the game.

The home side always looked to have the win sown up but Trafford managed to get the final score from Lord which was just reward.

On Saturday MV play their second pre-season fixture against a Lymm XV at MacPherson Park and a good crowd is expected for this opening home game of the season with admission free.

MV expect to have a number of players returning to the team ahead of the first fully competitive game in the Lancashire Trophy the following week at Heaton Moor.

Meanwhile, Trafford MV'S mini/junior rugby returns to MacPherson Park on Sunday, September 3 at 10.30am and is open to boys and girls from four years of age upwards.

Walking rugby for the over-50s has also taken to the fields of Trafford MV on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm where a regular group of male and female players enjoy their rugby at a reduced pace and on a smaller pitch in the touch rugby format.
