FLIXTON junior golfer Ellis Willot has won through to the final of the American Golf Junior Championship with a hugely impressive display in the gross score category at the regional qualification at High Legh Park Golf Club.

The 15-year-old, who plays his golf at Davyhulme Park GC, put in a fantastic display in the category which offers no help from a handicap.

He carded a superb round of eight over, which was enough to earn him second place behind Nathan Newton, of Ellesmere Port.

Ellis now progresses to the national final on Wednesday at Gainsborough Golf Club where he will take on qualifiers from all over the UK and Ireland for the coveted trophy.

Daniel Gathercole, director of marketing and communications at American Golf, said: “This is the fourth year for the Junior Championships and we’ve got another crop of youngsters who are playing some very impressive golf.

"Once again, though, I’m most impressed by the sportsmanship and positive attitude that we’ve got used to seeing.

"We can’t wait to get these great young golfers to Gainsborough for the final and make it a truly memorable event.”
