A JUNIOR football club which nearly went to the wall is celebrating finishing runner's up in the Timperley and District Junior Football League.

Ashton on Mersey Vipers, which plays in the U16s have been managed for the past eight years by David Atkinson who has been assisted by Ian Chambers-Knott since 2011 years.

David said: "After nearly folding six years ago, the team has improved season after season, slowly improving on their final league position over the years, from bottom of the league to finishing as runners-up this season.

"This has been our best season to date in which we only lost to one team all season. It was equally a close finish, but a memorable season with lots of exciting games and amazing goals.

"We are displaying our new home and away kits worn this season, following kind sponsorship from Kooltech Ltd (Chris Wilding & Jonathan Brown), who are one of the UK's largest independently owned distributors of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning products."

He adds: "A lot of the players are from the original team of eight years ago, so they’ve grown up together. But one thing is for sure, they are looking forward to competing at youth level next season."
