STRETFORD Cricket Club kept up their momentum last weekend with three out of their four sides collecting points.

After starting the season with two victories, both the first and second XI went into the weekend having collected maximum points.

The firsts faced former Greater Manchester Cricket League Premier League side Edgworth in Division One.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Stretford would not have been too downbeat chasing the 194-8 Edgworth posted.

Again Oral Rankine bowled 15 overs and returned figures of 4-53.

However at 13-3, a target of 190 looked out of reach.

As so it proved as Stretford fell well short, making 140 all out, despite the efforts of Rankine (35) and Thomas Coulson (29).

The seconds fared better and continued their winning start with another victory, this time against Rochdale Catholic Club. Chasing 189 Stretford were reached their target with wickets to spare, Foulkes once again proving his worth with 44 and supported by youngster Joe Weems (33).

Sunday saw the Spitfires play Denton West and after restricting West to 190, the game was never out of reach for Stretford.

After a shaky start with opener Laker being dismissed for just nine, Coulson provided the base of the innings with a boundary-filled 122 – his first senior century.

With batsmen around him, such as O’Malley and Page, Stretford crossed the line with Coulson proving his raw power and hitting ability.

The Hurricanes also claimed victory on Sunday, chasing 120 comfortably in 29 overs.

The firsts host Worsley at Lesley Road on Saturday, starting at 1pm.
