BROOKLANDS Cricket Club's first XI hosted Alvanley in Cheshire County League Division Two looking to build on the previous weekend's win.

Bowling first, Brooklands' Tom Mitchell opened the attack with captain AJ Hart and it wasn’t long before he was among the wickets, removing both openers with barely 20 on the scoreboard.

Jon Whitley (21) and Chris Charles (40) were the only players from the away side to put up any sort of resistance with wickets falling regularly.

Mitchell would go on to pick up two more wickets in another impressive performance, finishing on 4-37.

Hart, not wanting to be outdone, provided solid back-up to Mitchell eventually finishing on 3-40.

Christian Potter picked up two of the tail in his 2-22 with Mark Law taking 1-17, leaving the home side with a target of 118.

Despite losing David Madden early in the run chase, overseas player Kevin Carroll continued his good early form with 26 off of 27 balls before he was caught off the bowling of Rowlands (3-18).

Carroll’s partnership with Christian Hart (32) put the hosts in a commanding position, however, after they were both dismissed, Alvanley quickly skittled the next three Brooklands batsman for small change.

It was up to skipper AJ Hart (33 not out), along with Christian Hart and later Mark Law (10no) to see the home side over the line within 37 overs.

Currently sitting in third, the first XI travel to Didsbury tonight to commence their Joseph Holt T20 campaign.

The second XI made the short trip to Bowdon in the CCCL Second XI First Division.

Bowdon opener Ben Atkinson reached 56 before being caught and bowled in a fruitful afternoon with the ball for Sam Higgins.

Atkinson had plenty of support from the middle order with Simons (23), Grosfils (24), Ronson (32) and Williams (21) all chipping in with important runs.

The wickets were shared around among the youngsters with Higgins (3-23), George Jones (3-19) and Cameron Buchan (3-36) all finishing with three wickets each.

With a score of 177 to chase down, the visitors got off to a disappointing start, losing Jack Bagshaw early on.

James Robinson top scored for the seconds with 20 before he was caught by Ronson off the bowling of Oliver Williams.

Brooklands struggled to form any sort of partnership with small pockets of resistance being shown by Doug Whyley (18), George Jones (12) and Sam Higgins (10).

This resistance was to prove in vain as they found themselves bowled out for 87.

The third XI hosted Timperley and with usual opening partner Alex Jones unavailable, stalwart opener Ross Willard went into the trenches with 14-year-old Prithvi Mody, who proved to be more than up for the challenge.

The pair looked comfortable at the crease and saw off the first 10 overs to reach 46 without loss.

This steady pace continued until the 28th over when Willard bowed out, but not before making his first half century of the season.

Mody was soon to follow, caught off the bowling of Clarke for 43.

Two more quick wickets fell before newcomer Freddie Oakley smashed his was to an impressive quickfire 40, assisted by Paul Vesey with another solid innings of 21, as the visitors were set 208 to win.

Despite the early breakthrough from Vesey, taking the wicket of Marland for just one, Porthouse (99) and Coad (106no) helped the visitors pass the total with overs to spare.

The third XI look to bounce back at Stockport Trinity on Saturday.
