ALTRINCHAM Kersal's final home game of the North One West season ended in a 34-15 defeat against Birkenhead Park.

From the start it was Birkenhead Park showing why they sit second in the table and they scored first from a series of pinpoint passes, as they stormed through Kersal's defence to score.

The hosts responded with a penalty from Ross Keatch and the second half saw James Coulson race the length of the opposition's half to score a magnificent solo try, converted by Keatch.

JP Singleton then squeezed through Park's defence to bag himself a try.

Birkenhead regrouped, however, and they ploughed through Kersal's defence to score another two tries.

On Saturday, the firsts travel to St Benedicts to play the postponed fixture from March in what is their final game of the season.

Meanwhile, the third XV won 36-12 at home against Bury.

On Sunday, it was a great day all round for Kersal's youth development team as under-15s' Elliot Gourlay, Ollie Leatherbarrow and John Bailey made their debuts for Sale Sharks Academy.

They were unbeaten against Newcastle Falcons and Yorkshire Carnegie at Sharks' Carrington training complex.

Also on Sunday the u11s had a fantastic day in the first round of the Cheshire Tournament, qualifying for the first time for the cup and finishing in the top 10 in Cheshire. Kersal's Freddie Marston was also named as player of the tournament.

The u10s also had a thrilling day receiving a Core Value trophy from Sale Sharks player Dan Mugford at the U10s' Festival of Rugby.
