THE first day of the season provided a mixed bag of results as Brooklands CC looked to build on the solid foundations laid last year.

The first XI travelled to Lindow fielding a side that included new South African overseas player Kevin Carroll.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Lindow lost their first wicket with just two runs on the board after AJ Hart made an early breakthrough.

However, a solid second-wicket partnership between Ryan O’Brien and Tom Parfett steadied the Lindow ship, seeing them past the 50 mark before Hart took his second wicket, clean bowling Parfett (30).

Lindow wickets began falling regularly with no one really being able to provide O’Brien with any sort of support. Christian Potter (2-29), Rob Leach (2-21) and Raj Singh (2-44) picked up the remaining wickets as Lindow reached 195-9 from their 50 overs, O’Brien unbeaten on 81.

Brooklands' response started badly, losing their first four wickets for just 33 runs.

It was left to returning skipper AJ Hart to steady the ship along with his brother Christian as the pair put on 86 before AJ was dismissed by O’Brien (4-43) for 74.

Two more quick wickets fell before Christian departed for 47 and at 163-8 the target still looked attainable.

However, Brooklands fell just short being bowled out for 179.

The second XI began their season at home to Cheadle’s second XI and two early wickets for Tom Mitchell (4-43) and one for debutant Joe Gill (1-10) put Brooklands into a commanding position.

Brief resistance was made by Cheadle’s Kevin Moss (31) before he became the first victim of two run-outs by George Jones.

Luke Maitra (2-16) and skipper Alan Millington (1-18) mopped up the remaining wickets leaving a target of 125.

The target never really bothered the home side as they polished off the runs in 35 overs.

George Storrows (34 not out) supported Luke Maitras (86no) to ease Brooklands to a 10-wicket victory.

The thirds were also at home, hosting Wilmslow Wayfarers second XI on the back square.

Losing veteran opener and last year’s leading runs scorer Ross Willard and wicketkeeper Dan O’Gorman early put the onus on the other opener, Alex Jones to keep the scoreboard ticking over and he scored his first senior 50 before being caught for 60.

Paul Vesey (15) and Drew Hinde (13) provided some support as the home side finished on 160.

What looked like a competitive total was quickly chased down by The Wayfarers in 35 overs.

M Sultan top scored for the visitors with 53no, while the pick of the bowling were Alex Jones (1-43) and Hannan Tariq (1-36).
