OLD Trafford and Gorse Hill scored the only goal of their game to beat reigning Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League Premier Division champions Rochdalians.

But they remain off the pace at the top in a title race that has become a two-horse race between Mellor and Whalley Range.

Both posted emphatic victories at the weekend. Range had few problems in a big 7-2 win at Old Ashtonians and Mellor kept a clean sheet as they pushed Bedians deeper into relegation trouble with a big 5-0 win.

Range stay 10 points clear of Mellor who have four games in hand with the title looking to be settled when the two teams meet later in the season.

Meanwhile, High Lane were 2-1 winners in a close contest at Tintwistle Athletic.

Newton’s great run in the Manchester Challenge Cup was ended with a 2-0 semi-final defeat at the hands of Manchester League high-fliers East Manchester.

The title race in Division One looks virtually done and dusted as leaders Moorside Rangers stay three points clear of Signol Athletic with five games in hand after they beat Milton 3-0 .

The game burst into action as Kelly opened the scoring for Rangers on 20 minutes then Goodman ran with the ball from the halfway line and unleashed a drive that shook the bar and Kelly tapped in for his brace.

Rangers were then reduced to 10 men with a red card but they continued to work hard and sealed victory with a spot-kick from Kay after Kamthunzi had been brought down.

Signol Athletic stay in second spot after a hard-earned 3-2 win at Didsbury but can still be caught by Newton Heath, who were 5-3 victors at Stoconians.

The other games saw Old Stretfordians win 4-0 at Salford Vics, Trafford United were in seventh heaven after beating Bury Ams 7-0 and Oldham Vics eased home 2-0 at Swinton.

Waterloo were given a boost in their Division Two title aspirations as they beat Moston Brook seconds 5-0 and close rivals Mellor seconds lost out 1-0 hosting Newton seconds.

Whalley Range seconds also lost ground as they were held to a 3-3 draw with AFC Oldham.

South Manchester seconds are in a steady run of form and kept up their momentum as Ross McGuigan (two) and Sam Okosun netted in a 3-0 win against Spurley Hey.

The other game had Chorltonians winning 4-2 at Staly Lions.

Didsbury seconds took over the lead in Division Three with a convincing 6-2 win against Manchester Polonia as previous leaders Chorltonians seconds were without a game.

Salford Vics seconds stay in the frame with 3-1 victory over Chadderton Park and Rochdalians seconds won 3-0 against Cheadle Hulme Athletic.

The other games saw Santos win a seven-goal thriller by the odd goal at Newton Heath seconds and Hooley Bridge Celtic seconds were convincing 4-1 winners against Heaton Mersey.

The game of the day in Division A between the top two had Chorltonians Rovers showing why they lead the race as they beat Hollingworth 3-0.

Whalley Range thirds stay in touch with the top two, winning a thriller 4-3 against Mellor thirds.

There were plenty of goals at Moston Brook thirds who lost out 6-4 to Aldermere and Hargreaves Bury emerged with a 4-2 win against AFC Oldham seconds.

It was tighter at Signol Athletic seconds who scored the only goal in a tense derby with Stoconians seconds.

Abacus Media seconds still enjoy a big lead in Division B but had to work hard for a 2-1 win at Old Strets seconds.

Tintwistle Athletic thirds stay in second spot, nine points adrift of the leaders, with a 5-2 win at Bury Ams thirds and Deans were 3-0 winners hosting Staly Lions seconds.

Parrs Wood Celtic thirds had a fine 5-2 victory at Abacus Media thirds and Stoconians thirds were 2-1 winners against Manchester Rovers.

The top two teams in Division D were out of action and Chadderton Park seconds closed part of a huge gap with a 2-1 win against Didsbury fourths.

Another close contest saw Stoconians fourths with by the odd goal in five at Staly Lions thirds.

Plenty of goals in the other games were led by AFC Oldham fourths with a 9-1 win against Whalley Range fourths.

Old Strets thirds won 5-2 at Droylsden JFC and Bury Ams fourths cruised to a 6-1 win at Swinton seconds.
