ASHTON on Mersey captain Geoff Allan and lady captain Jackie Mitchell combined superbly as they both supported the local Alzheimers Society for their captains’ charity during their year in office.

They were delighted to welcome society representative Stephanie Larkin to the club to give a talk to members followed by a question-and-answer session before presenting her with a cheque for £3,000.

Geoff said: “Both Jackie and I have both got close relatives that have suffered with Alzheimers and with the club having a thriving senior section we felt that it would be beneficial to the local community and our club in particular.

"The money was raised with various functions throughout the year with the race night being the most productive followed by a fashion show and Christmas fayre.

“I would like to thank Gary Bailey, in particular, for his efforts in making the race night such a success.

“The talk given by Stephanie was well supported and well delivered and she was very pleased with the amount we had raised.

“We had lots of feedback and Stephanie stayed behind to answer questions of a personal nature which was much appreciated.

“I think that the success of this joint venture to a local charity shows what a great club spirit we have at Ashton on Mersey and long may their generosity continue.”
