URMSTON men’s thirds moved up to sixth place in North West Hockey League Division Six North South with a 7-2 win against a strong West Derby men’s thirds side on Saturday.

Having gone 2-1 down, the Greens hit back with a hat-trick from Robin Cooper, two from Martin Smith and a powerful top corner strike from Ollie Cooper.

Charlie Weems’ virtuoso strike was the best of a good bunch as the men’s firsts kept their Division Five North South promotion chances alive with a 4-0 win against rivals Knutsford men’s firsts.

Owen Monk, Mike Tonge and a rare Richard Wood goal capped the scoring with man-of-the-match James McLaughlin’s saves helping to keep a clean sheet.

Elsewhere the threadbare ladies’ firsts lost 5-2 against Sale ladies’ firsts with the seconds hammering University of Manchester ladies’ fourths 8-0.

The men’s seconds were aggrieved to see their 3-1 lead overturned in a late 4-3 loss to South Manchester men’s thirds, despite man-of-the-match Si Constable's brace.
