TRAFFORD'S 18-match unbeaten league run came to an end on Tuesday when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Glossop North End.

A Max Leonard goal 20 minutes in at Shawe View gave the visitors all three points and saw Trafford lose ground on Evo-Stik First Division North leaders Lancaster City who beat Radcliffe Borough 3-1 the same night.

They now sit nine points off top spot in third ahead of another home game against Hyde United on Saturday.

Tom Baker's side went into the game in confident mood after a a 3-0 victory at basement side Burscough last weekend, with leading scorer Aaron Burns notching two goals to take his tally for the season to 26.

The Shawe View men attacked from the start and were ahead within a minute, Liam Brownhill floating a corner into the path of Lee Neville who rammed the ball into the roof of the net from 15 yards.

Josh Granite almost made it two when he glanced a header inches over and following a slick move, Ashley Woods volleyed wide at the back post.

In the 35th minute Kingsley Williams squandered a great chance when he broke clear down the middle but home goalkeeper Richie Mottram left his line to produce a brave save from point-blank range.

However, just a minute later Trafford netted the second goal that their superiority deserved when Woods and Neville saw short-range shots blocked before the ball fell to the feet of Burns who blasted it past Mottram.

To their credit, the hosts started the second half brightly and substitute Callum Scott should have scored when he was presented with a header four yards out but nodded over the bar.

Deklan Hill then shot high and wide from 10 yards as complacency crept into the Trafford side and boss Baker introduced substitutes Andy Keogh, Jonah Gosling and Chris Palmer in an attempt to shake up his team.

And that move paid dividends almost immediately as, in the 63rd minute, Burscough failed to clear another Brownhill corner and Burns turned the ball in from just two yards to make it 3-0.

It was now all Trafford and Gosling, Palmer and Ally Brown all wasted great opportunities to boost their side's goal difference.

But the dying minutes were tinged with disappointment as first Burns left the field with a hamstring injury and then Neville was pole-axed by a reckless challenge by Elliott Nevitt that resulted in a red card for the home player and meant Trafford finished the game with nine men.

Nevertheless, manager Baker was delighted with a victory that extends Trafford’s unbeaten run to eighteen games, although they now face two very difficult home games in the form of Glossop on Tuesday night and Hyde United on Saturday.
