ALTRINCHAM Kersal Rugby Club is holding a free taster session on Sunday aiming to encourage more women and girls into the game.

The 'Meet Your Inner Warrior' campaign is run in conjunction with England Rugby with 100 camps taking place across the country this month.

And the Timperley-based club hosts their event this Sunday, starting at 1pm.

Steve Grainger, RFU rugby development director, said: “We set ourselves an ambitious target when launching our women and girls strategy in 2014 – to get 25,000 women participating in contact rugby.

"Despite the ever-growing appetite for the sport that we have witnessed through achieving our target one year ahead of schedule, we know there is still work to be done to ensure women are aware of the opportunities out there for them to participate in rugby, whether for fun or at a competitive level.

“The upcoming ‘Warrior Camp’ at Altrincham Kersal is a great chance for newcomers or returning players to take part in the sport through a fun and informal session.”

The Altrincham Kersal Warrior Camp is a commitment-free taster session teaching participants key introductory skills and drills for rugby, with help on hand every step of the way.

All people need to take part are a pair of trainers and their usual workout gear.
