TRAFFORD stretched their unbeaten Evo-Stik First Division North run to 10 games with a 1-1 draw against a powerful and impressive Brighouse outfit.

Tom Baker’s side hadn’t conceded a goal since November 1 – a run of six games – but fell behind after just 48 seconds when Leon Osbourne glanced a header inside the far post following a free kick from the right.

The hosts did not let this setback upset them and Filose Irakoze skipped through the Town defence but saw his shot brilliantly tipped past the post by Tom Taylor.

Irakoze then won the ball in midfield and set up Kingsley Williams but his curling drive from 20 yards flew just wide of the upright.

In the 33rd minute leading scorer Aaron Burns squandered a great chance to equalise when his goalbound effort was cleared off the line by Kurt Harris but Burns made amends for that miss two minutes before the interval when he blasted the ball into the roof of the net from 10 yards after Irakoze had pulled the ball back from the left.

Brighouse were on top in the opening stages of the second half and in the 54th minute dangerman Devonte Morton struck a great drive from the left against the bar from 25 yards.

James Pollard then flighted a free kick against the woodwork from the edge of the penalty area and home keeper Terry Smith produced a full-length save to deny Tom Haigh.

However, Trafford then took control and a low drive by Burns was fumbled by Taylor but Lee Neville just failed to force the rebound home.

In the dying seconds substitute Mark Derbyshire appeared to be pulled down but referee Nicholson ignored Trafford’s claims for a penalty and then the Shawe View boys wasted a free kick in a great position on the edge of the Town penalty area by over-elaborating.

As a result of the draw, Trafford slipped down to fourth but will be hoping for three points on Saturday when they travel to play Goole Town, kick off 3pm.
