TRAFFORD MV's firsts ended their eight game losing streak with an impressive 24-22 win at Aldwinians in the North Lancs/Cumbria Division.

The home side struck early as MV showed some slack tackling and quickly led 7-0.

The game was well contested with both sides looking to establish a good foothold but neither was dominant.

However, late in the first half MV were back in it with Jamie Kingdon out-muscling his opposite number to force himself over down the right flank to make it 7-5 at half time.

Aldwinians opened the second half as they did the first, finding a gap in MV's midfield to break down the middle to score under the posts and the conversion made it 14-5.

MV were in the game, however, and good field position brought penalties as a reward with Pat Eccles keeping the visitors in the frame.

Aldwinians hit MV with a try which was quickly nullified as Pat Eccles had a clearance kick charged down only to pick up the stray ball and sprint 50 metres.

It was then down to debutant colt Tom Quealy to cap a solid game as he crashed over to give MV the win and put them 10th in the table.

On Sunday MV's senior under-17s' colts hosted neighbours Sale FC and both sides were keen to take up the challenge. Early pressure from Sale brought penalties which gave them a 6-0 lead but that was narrowed before half time as Greg Warren pulled one back for MV.

Trafford had defended well and were stopping Sale's strong runners from breaking their line.

Better discipline in the second half saw MV influence the game more.

A good forward effort gave them decent possession and it was captain and number eight Quealy who capped a man-of-the-match performance with two tries following determined powerful runs.

Warren added a conversion to give MV a deserved 15-6 win and derby bragging rights.
