STEFAN Wasilewski made it seven goals in two weeks as Urmston Hockey Club's men's firsts moved joint top of North West Hockey League Division One with a 4-3 win against Blackburn Northern men’s firsts.
Luke Fidler also netted from the penalty spot with man-of-the-match Andy Wilson’s heroic defending and organisation holding Blackburn to seal a fourth straight win.
Captain Charlotte O’Toole also helped herself to three goals as the ladies’ seconds masterminded an 8-0 win against Manchester Moss Park thirds to move second.
Players’ player Lisa Jordan also weighed in with a treble and there was a brace for Danielle Harvey, taking the team's tally in the last three games to 16 goals.
Grace Wilson made a fantastic debut in goal for the ladies’ firsts as she kept a clean sheet having volunteered in a 0-0 draw with Wilmslow firsts.
Players’ player Claire Mulligan capped a strong defensive unit to ensure a share of the spoils.
There was late heartbreak for the ladies’ thirds as Glossop seconds scored a last-minute goal to win 4-3 after the Greens had put themselves into an early 2-0 lead.
Glossop snatched victory despite a stellar defensive display by players’ player Tia Sharp, opposition’s player Hannah Porter, Megan Whiteley and the goalline clearances of Grace Gauntlett-Hessing.
Brothers Matt and Dan Downes netted but could not stop the men’s seconds falling 6-4 to City of Manchester thirds.
Ric Clarke and Rob Skelley also scored with Simon Constable picking up the man-of-the-match award in a game the Greens were unfortunate to lose.
Tom Frame and Martin Smith split the man-of-the-match vote as a 7-1 loss to St Helens firsts did not tell the story of a strong team performance.
Captain’s player Chris Seed was at the heart of Urmston’s good play alongside Neil Hessing and goalkeeper Dave Engels who epitomised the Greens' valiant play.
