LEADERS Budenburgs maintained their position at the top of the Altrincham and Sale Round the Board Darts League with a hard-fought 4-3 win against fourth-placed Central Club.

Kevin Legg, of Budenburgs, said: "It was a high standard of darts and we were pushed all the way by a high-performing Central team."

Elsewhere, Orange Tree in fifth place took on sixth-placed Brooklands Tap and lost 4-3 after a close match.

Orange Tree captain Mark Smith said: "It was a great night of darts and although we lost, Brooklands Tap played exceptionally well and deserved the win in the end."

British Rail secured another win, cementing third while Timperley Conservative Club also stay second after their own victory.

With the midway point of the winter season approaching, there are four teams vying for top spot.

League secretary Carl Bailey said: "It has become a friendly but competitive league and with the Railway Sale joining there are now 11 teams."
