JACK Bradburn capped a successful season on the track with a bronze medal in the 200m at the English National Athletics Championships in Bedford.

The athlete, who competes for Altrincham and District Athletics Club and attends Altrincham Grammar School, also finished sixth in the final of the 100m.

He was narrowly beaten to the silver medal by 0.08 seconds by the English School's 200m champion, with the gold going to the English School's 100m champion.

This is the first time Bradburn has been beaten over this distance in a season which has seen him take the 200m Greater Manchester Counties gold medal, the Northern Counties 200m title, the 200m Northern Inter-counties title, as well as securing silver in the Greater Manchester Championships at 100m, gold in the Mason Cup at 100m, gold in the long jump at the Greater Manchester County Championships and gold in the 100m Northern Inter-counties championships.

His times for the 100m, 200m and 300m this season put him in the top 20 sprinters for his age group in the UK.

His achievements this year have been down to a more focused training regime, hard work and the tireless dedication of his coach Howard Tarry and the work of the committee and volunteers at Altrincham Athletics Club.

Next season he will make the leap from the u15 to the u17 age group where the competition is sure to be a lot harder.
