BROOKLANDS Poynton embarked on a top-of-the-table home clash with Durham University in Ladies National Conference North and won 2-0 to retain top spot.

Durham arrived at George’s Road with the only unbeaten record in the division and a reputation of being a tough team to break down who play on the counter with fast forwards.

But Brooklands quickly took control of the match, enjoying large spells of possession and creating numerous half-chances without finding the elusive opening goal.

With the teams locked at 0-0 at half time, coach Aidan Khares reiterated his proven mantra of ‘"trust the process" and with the words still ringing in their ears, Brooklands continued in the ascendancy.

Carro Hulme linked well with Annie Mills who finished with aplomb to score her fifth goal in six games.

With the lead, Brooklands quickly won a short corner which was confidently converted by Australian debutante, Jess Bestall.

Having secured the advantage, Brooklands continued to control the majority of possession with Watton going close and hitting the bar following great individual skill.

No further goals followed the team closed the game out successfully.

The player-of-the-match award went to impressive centre-back Amy Gavin.
