BROOKLANDS MU Hockey Club men's first team made it three successive wins with a 2-1 triumph against struggling Canterbury

They dominated the early exchanges, and were rewarded after some crafty stick work down the right from striker Aidan Khares earned the first penalty corner of the match.

Captain Peter Flanagan stepped up, looking for his chance to put the home side ahead early, but the opportunity went begging.

Brooklands continued to dominate possession and some good interplay between Oliver Clarke, Matt Symonds and Khares gave Sam Perrin a half chance on goal but his effort sailed wide.

Brooklands struggled to gain momentum in the second half and had captain Flanagan and goalie Chris Scott to thank for ensuring none of Canterbury’s fast breaks put them ahead.

Brooklands also had their chances, and finally went ahead on 48 minutes when youngster Tom Lush scored from close range after a skewed effort from Flanagan landed nicely for him.

With only minutes on the clock, Lush, perhaps still a little eager to be involved after his earlier strike was green carded for failing to be five metres from the free hit.

Down a defender Brooklands struggled and after a goalmouth scramble, Canterbury found the back of the net.

With only two minutes on the clock and locked at one apiece, it looked like ending all square.

Richard Slater, however, had other ideas. Clarke found Slater, lurking at the back post and his effort rolled over the line despite a touch from the Canterbury keeper to seal another three points for Brooklands

Meanwhile, Brooklands players Thomas Russell and Tor Hughes have been selected for the England Under-18 squad and Oliver Cuttle, Adam Simpson and James Gardiner have been selected for the u17s' England AASE programme.

Director of hockey and men’s first-team coach, Mark Bateman has also been appointed as England u16s head coach and England u21s assistant coach, while men’s first-team manager Paul Gannon has been appointed England u21s manager.
