FORMER Bowdon hockey player and 2016 Olympic gold medal winner Sam Quek has headed Down Under to take part in ITV’s show ‘I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here'.
The 28 year-old came to prominence as a defender in the women's team that captured the nation's imagination as it won gold in Rio.
She can expect to contend with trials such as eating crickets, spiders and other insects and physical and mental tasks like tackling obstacle courses and tunnels, during her stay in the jungle.
The Liverpool fan returned to Bowdon Cricket, Hockey and Squash Club last month to record a new radio and TV programme for the BBC.
She was interviewed by Darren Campbell, former Sale Harrier and Olympic gold and silver medal winner, as part of a series called 'Get Inspired'.
For the programme, Sam was joined on the pitch by 65 junior hockey players for a question and answer session, before she led the children in an hour long hockey training session.
