THE final of the 27th annual WGTB Club Trophy Knockout took place at Sale Golf Club and home players Terry Crewe and Henry Hayes ensured the trophy is to stay at Sale for another 12 months.

There was an original entry of over 180 players from the 14 invited clubs and the 16 pairs who battled their way through can be congratulated on reaching the final day.

Setting the early pace were reigning champions Graham Jenkinson and John Hassett (Sale GC) who posted an impressive 41 points to have them leading for a long time until club colleagues Crewe and Hayes raced into the lead with a fabulous haul of 44 points.

Making it a clean sweep for the host club were the last-in pair of Kevin and Brian Moore with 39 points.

Taking the other two prizes were Andrew and Chris Boyle (Brookdale) with 38 points and Steve and Mike Scragg (Chorlton) 37.

Nearest-the-pin prizes were taken by Duncan Baird (Brookdale) and Chris Boyle, also Brookdale.

Balls for Two’s were won by Jenkinson, Steve Clough and Alan Andrews (Didsbury), Trevor Golds (Chorlton), Steve Wells (Sale) and Andrew Angelone (Stamford).

The race for the Alliance professional Order of Merit prize looks to be one of the most open and competitive for several years as new names for this season led the way in the latest competition at Leigh Golf Club.

Leigh have been superb in the Dunham Forest Trophy with five wins in the last seven years and they led in the am-am section with John Moorfield and Jim Dolan winning a card play-off on 43 points from Lee Warren (Northenden) and Dave Hemingway (Chorley), two clear of Danny Ritchie and Carl Robinson (Wigan).

The top individual pro was Ringway's David Brunton with 38 points, ahead of Bramall Park’s Ollie Whiteley with 37 and Anthony Millar (Ellesmere) and Phil Archer (Birchwood) – both 36.

The leading assistant pro prize went to Chorley’s Andy Palmer with 34 points.

In the pro-am section, Stand duo Mark Hancock and Norman Haslam were clear winners on 43 points ahead of Hale’s Richard Booth and David Wainwright (41) and Adam Hodkinson and James Doodson (Chorlton) who scored 40.
