Altrincham 3-3 Liverpool Feds

A SPECULATIVE 90th-minute strike from Altrincham Ladies’ Megan Wright made sure they earned a share of the spoils in a 3-3 draw against Liverpool Feds at Mersey Valley in the North West Regional Division One South.

It was a match of two halves which saw the visitors take the lead on three occasions, only to be cancelled out by the Robins each time.

Altrincham played 4-5-1 in the first half which saw them struggle to reach the high standards they have set themselves this campaign.

Liverpool repeatedly played the ball behind the hosts’ back-line which resulted in the opening goal.

Captain Bliss Molyneaux was looking to shepherd the ball back to goalkeeper Lizzie Brereton and Levi Walmsley nipped in to poke the ball into the net.

Altrincham’s only chance in the first half saw them score on 26 minutes.

Jade Hesketh slipped a pass to Jess Hartopp on the right, unleashed a trademark long-range effort that flew into the roof of the goal.

However, the Feds restored their advantage when Carina Mendes received a through-ball and guided her shot into the net.

The Robins levelled for the second occasion on 51 minutes. Kate Bryan collected a Georgia Plant pass, side-stepped her marker and drilled a low shot just inside the left post.

Liverpool scored for the third time following a corner that was not cleared, Jade Moore poking home from close range.

Alty pushed forwarded for another equaliser and Hartopp had a header cleared off the line before the Feds’ goalkeeper pulled off saves to deny Plant and Wright.

But on 90 minutes Altrincham got their deserved equaliser.

Plant’s corner was half-cleared and Wright unleashed a long-range strike into the roof of the net to maintain Alty's fourth place in the league.
