A SUPERB hat-trick by Trafford’s giant striker Mark Derbyshire paved the way for his side’s 5-2 victory over Hallmark Security League outfit Cheadle Town in their FA Cup first qualifying tie at Shawe View on Saturday and set up an away trip to Bishop Auckland.

Cheadle almost got off to the perfect start when, in the first minute, Trafford centre-back Josh Granite and goalkeeper Russ Saunders got in a tangle and Sam Noah headed just past the post.

The hosts then took control with a Lee Neville volley deflected over, Mitch Bryant seeing his attempted chip held by Ben Jupp and Ally Brown firing in a fierce low drive that the visiting keeper blocked brilliantly.

In the 29th minute, disaster struck for Tom Baker’s side when Kyle Jacobs was dispossessed in midfield and Michael Sherrington broke clear to blast a great shot past Saunders into the bottom corner.

Within a minute, however, Trafford were back on level terms when Cheadle failed to clear a cross from the right and Luke Horrocks pounced to force the ball home from 12 yards.

Trafford were buoyed by the equaliser and in the 39th minute forged ahead when Bryant fed Derbyshire who strode forward and coolly placed the ball past Jupp.

Derbyshire then teed up debutant Simon Garner whose shot was blocked on the line before making it 3-1 just a minute before the interval when he pulled the ball down neatly, sped past a defender and planted a glorious left-footed drive inside the far upright.

The play became rather scrappy in the opening minutes of the second half before bursting into life in the 65th minute when Derbyshire completed his hat-trick by coolly slotting home from eight yards following good work by Nicky Platt.

Cheadle danger man Noah then cracked a great shot from 25 yards just wide beforeBryant made it 5-1 in the 79th minute when he steered a miss-hit shot by Neville past the helpless Jupp.

Shortly afterwards Trafford were reduced to 10 men when centre-back Craig Robinson left the field with a leg injury, manager Baker having used all three of his substitutes.

Then, in the 84th minute, Cheadle reduced the arrears when Saunders carelessly pulled down Noah and Luke Pearson stepped forward to steer the resulting penalty into the top corner.

The final whistle arrived to signal a much-needed victory for Baker’s boys following two league defeats.

On Saturday, Trafford return to Evo-Stik First Division North action when they entertain leaders Farsley Celtic at Shawe View, kick off 3pm.
