BROOKLANDS first XI achieved their eighth league win of the season in some style at home to Alvanley.

Batting first, Alvanley were restricted to 158-8 from their 50 overs despite 98 not out for opener Mike Rowlands.

Good fielding brought two run-outs, and Christian Potter achieved his season-best figures of 4-39 in 10 overs.

In reply, AJ Hart's 28 got the hosts going in partnership with brother Chris (19), but Dan Duke's typically-aggressive 73no saw Brooklands reach their target with 10 overs to spare, with Dave Madden (25no) providing support.

With three games to go, Brooklands are battling for third in Cheshire County League Division Two.

A very youthful second XI did not bring much back from Warrington where a very young side was bowled out for 110 in 45 overs to stay fifth.

Only five boundaries were hit, four by captain Richard Palmer (22).

Tormentor-in-chief for the hosts was Phil Whelan (14 overs, 7-18).

Warrington took 33 overs to pass the target for the loss of just two wickets with home captain Simon Swain (48no) and Brad Roden (40) doing most of the work to get them across the line.

The third XI lost by 80 runs against Wistaston Village after being bowled out for 170, having conceded 250.

On Sunday, the fourth XI thrashed Bowdon Vale at home.

Vale batted first and were dismissed for 49; opening bowler George Foreman took 3-27 opening up.

The reply took just eight overs, with wicketkeeper-batsman-captain James Robinson scoring 32no in the successful chase as the Bears won by 10 wickets.

The Under-18s reached the final of the South Manchester Junior Cricket Cup, which was played on Monday at a finals day at Stretford.

Their match was against Stockport Georgians, for whom they were little match.

Batting first, the u18s only made 90-9 in their 20 overs with the run rate drying up after elder statesman Robinson (23) was out in the seventh over.

Georgians eased to the trophy in the 18th over for the loss of just four wickets.
