TRAFFORD suffered their first defeat of the season with visitors Ossett Town producing a superb battling performance to win 3-2 and claim maximum points.

The hosts dominated the first half of the Evo-Stik First Division North clash and after only five minutes Lee Neville and Kingsley Williams linked brilliantly on the left with the latter firing in a shot that Carl Badger pushed behind.

Aaron Burns then curled in a great cross from the left that Connor Martin headed on to the roof of the net and Burns buried a header into the bottom corner that was ruled out for offside.

Trafford were finally rewarded for their superiority in the dying seconds of the first half when Badger fumbled a cross from the right and Williams pounced to stab the ball home from close range.

The second half started brightly with Badger atoning for his earlier mistake with a brilliant reflex save to tip a Martin drive past the upright.

Burns twice struck long-range efforts just off target, Ashley Jackson cleared an in-swinging corner off the line and Burns was adjudged to have fouled goalkeeper Badger after heading another corner past the under pressure custodian.

In the 68th minute, Trafford were rocked by an equalising goal orchestrated by the diminutive Leon Henry, Danny Frost collecting the ball 20 yards out and cracking a great drive past Russ Saunders and in off the far post.

Trafford’s midfield powerhouse Kyle Jacobs was then desperately unlucky to see his thunderbolt from 25 yards clip the outside of the post and in the 79th minute Ossett struck again when a deep free kick from the left was met by a powerful header by skipper Alex Peterson that flew past Saunders via the underside of the bar.

Four minutes later it was 3-1 when Trafford centre-back Craig Robinson carelessly lunged into Danny Frost who dusted himself down to plant the resultant spot-kick past Saunders.

Trafford responded immediately with a long diagonal pass by substitute Ally Brown being touched inside by Mitch Bryant and Burns swooped to blast home from close range.

But despite some late pressure and a cracking drive by Grant Spencer that was held by Badger, the visiting defence held firm to record an excellent victory.

A miserable weekend for Trafford was complete when they suffered a second successive loss on Monday, going down 2-0 at Radcliffe Borough.
