URMSTON CC beat a strong Brooklands team to win the Under-14s' Salford Cup.

Batting first, Urmston got off to a solid start with Josh Espley and George Phillips seeing off the opening bowling attack of Joe Gill and George Foreman.

However, Urmston lost both openers with the score on 30.

This brought Adam Youd and Arav Shetty to the crease and they capitalised on the good start.

They took the score on to 96 with Youd scoring 26 and Shetty hitting an unbeaten 43.

A late cameo from Lewis Phillips took the total to 120 off 20 overs.

It was in the field where Urmston excelled and won the match.

Great opening spells from Phillips (1-12) and Sam Tootell (1-17) set the standard.

This was backed up by Youd (1-18) and a brilliant spell from Oscar Buckley (2-10) bowling at the business end.

Brooklands ended up on 97 after their 20 overs, 24 runs short of victory.
