BROOKLANDS Cricket Club's Under-17s beat Davenham to win the Cheshire Cup last weekend.

Batting first, Brooklands reached 129-6 with Ross Dunleavy and Ethan Brooks the main run scorers.

The bowlers then restricted hosts Davenham to 115-9, with Brooks in the wickets as well as Rahul Geetala.

Elsewhere, the first XI travelled to Chester to face Barrow in Cheshire County League Division Two and lost by 17 runs.

Skipper AJ Hart won the toss and chose to put the hosts into bat. Wickets fell at regular intervals throughout the Barrow innings but knocks of 52 for Marlon Barclay and 70 for Alex Reid saw the home side reach 229-9 off their 50 overs. Hart led from the front with 4-72 off his 14 overs.

The Brooklands reply got off to a slow start as they lost Jack Bagshaw, George Storrow and Hart for just 69 runs.

It was left to u17s' captain Dave Cunliffe and overseas player Dan Duke to steady the ship with a 99-run partnership before Duke was dismissed for 75 off just 41 balls.

Cunliffe fell shortly after but not before making his maiden first XI half-century.

This prompted a collapse with only Mark Law (28) putting up any sort of resistance as Brooklands fell short, scoring 212-9 to secure just nine points.

The second XI welcomed neighbours Sale to Whitehall Road and were put into bat by the visitors.

Paul Garnett top-scored for the home side with 50, backed up by Mark Bloomfield (38) and Ethan Brooks (20) as Brooklands made 167-7 off their 50 overs on a slow pitch.

Gareth Watterson (2-26 off 10) and Siyan Siraj (2-48 off 15) did the most damage for Sale’s bowling attack.

Brooklands came out fighting after tea with the opening attack of Tom Mitchell and Tom Lett destroying the Sale top order with only Watterson (43) putting up any kind of resistance.

Tom Mitchell finished with a glorious 'five-for' (5-26 off 12) with Tom Lett picking up 2-28 off seven.

Skipper Alan Millington and Geetala picked up one wicket each as Sale finished on 113 all out.

With no game for the third XI, attention turned to Sunday where Rohin Jairath’s fourth XI lost to Urmston by 38 runs.

Cameron Buchan (3 -30 off eight overs) and Sam Higgins (2-35) were the pick of the bowlers and, despite a solid 79 from the skipper, Brooklands were unable to get over the line.

This Saturday the first XI are at home to Lindow, who sit one place above them in the league. The second XI are away at third-placed Bowdon.

The third XI are away at Disley second XI, while the fourth XI have a table-topping clash with Ashton on Mersey third XI on Sunday.
