ALTON Beckford starred with bat and ball as Flixton beat Greenmount in the Greater Manchester Cricket League Premier Division.

The Jamaican-born star took six wickets before a half-century with the bat helped the hosts to victory.

Greenmount posted 173-9 from 50 overs with two wickets for Connor De'ath after a fantastic diving catch on the boundary.

In reply, Usman Tariq and Luke Perry opened the batting and were both out for 17.

Beckford again pulled Flixton through, scoring 53 runs, before a controversial decision saw him given out lbw.

Wicketkeeper Oliver Riley could not score the winning runs, leaving youngster Andrew Morrison and veteran Alan Embleton to take the game home.

Some steady batting tightened up the game, but when the bad ball came Morrison made no mistake in smashing the ball for four to win the game with five overs to spare as Flixton reached 175-9.

It was a big win for Flixton, putting them fifth in the table snapping at Denton St Lawrence's heels.

Elsewhere, Flixton's second team beat Elton. Elton batted first, posting 150.

Flixton lost just two wickets in their successful chase, Connor Geary scoring 93.
