TWO under-13s squads from Sale United took Europe by storm when they tested their skills against four clubs in the Utrecht area of Holland.

Since 2001 Sale United have established the links with these clubs and over the years almost 300 boys have enjoyed the experience of playing games against their Dutch counterparts.

This year's squads had the most successful results ever by winning all eight of their games.

Although the 2004 squad were previously the only Sale United squad to return home unbeaten, this included a draw in their last game.

The opposition coaches awarded a Sale United Man of the Match trophy for each game.

In addition two ‘Fair Play’ trophies were also awarded in the first night matches.

These were won by Sean Christophers, Billy Dawson, Bertie Gent, Eddie Gregory, Cian Lambert, Kiyomi Mullings, Isaac Muwonge, Nick O’Leary, Josh Sutcliffe and Theo Widdicombe

The week wasn’t all about football though as the boys enjoyed a Water Park, a theme Park,  a guided tour of the FC Utrecht stadium, and some shopping time in Utrecht centre.

On the final night, the boys enjoyed a celebratory meal at the Hotel de Bilt, where every player was presented with a boxed souvenir medal for the tour.

Cian Lambert received the ‘Ashley Saunders’ Memorial Trophy as the player who contributed most to the tour, both on and off the field.
