THE first running of the Trafford All Terrain Challenge was a great success with over 50 runners taking part over the three days in the Mersey Valley, July 15 to 17.

The event that tested runners over a variety of distances in the picturesque nature reserve.

The men’s title was won by Jack Martin of Stockport ahead of namesake Morris. Martin set out his stall with a convincing win on Friday on the tough five mile course

The Stockport pair fought of a close battle over the three days, including close mile where Martin prevailed both were given the same time (4.20).

Martin clichéd the series with a clear win in the three mile race with Morris in second place.

Jack Nixon, also of Stockport, was the third man home over the three days.

Laura Riches of Leigh Harriers emerged the winner of the women’s challenge. Laura took wins in the 5 mile and three mile event.

Riches, who has just returned from study in Indiana, USA, was challenged by Lucy Dowsett of Coventry Godiva who was the mile winner (5.06) around Sale Water Park.

Vicky Cronin of Trafford ran a consistent series to finish third overall in the women’s challenge.

Stockport won the team title, with Trafford second, with Chorlton Runners finishing third.
