STRETFORD Cricket Club's under-15s made the final of the South Manchester Junior Cricket League Cup with victory over Timperley.

While the senior sides were washed out by the wet weather at the weekend, the youngsters from Lesley Road continued their impressive cup run on Sunday afternoon.

The team had already beaten strong Didsbury and Whalley range teams to reach the last four and were looking to book a final berth against either Bowdon or Woodford.

Stretford lost two early wickets, Yash Raj and Matthew Armstrong both out cheaply.

But, from 14-2, the recovery was led by Joe Weems who got 29 before being run out, with support from Ethan Page (15) and Kamran Hussain (10).

Stretford managed to limp to 88-7 from their 20 overs.

Timperley had a terrible start to their reply, losing two wickets in the first five balls.

George Riddell ran out the Timperley opener and Joe Weems bowled the next batsman in to leave them on 0-2.

Timperley never recovered with Hussain coming on as first change to end up with 4-8, and all the other bowlers keeping the pressure on.

Weems (1-8), Raj (1-2), Tom Coulson (2-13) and Page (1-1) all contributed as Timperley were bowled out for only 32 in 17 overs.

This week sees the Stretford Spitfires playing two ECB under-19s' games against Wythenshawe and Urmston, the Urmston game being at home tomorrow night.

On Saturday, the Stretford first team are away to Thornham in Greater Manchester Cricket League Division Two, while the seconds are at home to Prestwich thirds.

On Sunday, the thirds visit Deane and Derby second team in Bolton, while the fourth XI host Droylsden.
