ALTRINCHAM’S Chris Ingram will look to further extend his lead in the European Junior Rally Championship this weekend when he competes in Estonia.

Former Bollin School pupil Ingram, who is currently ranked number one rally car driver in England, is looking to become the youngest ever European Rally Champion at the tender age of 22, which will see him surpass the late Colin McRae in achieving this success.

The talented Ingram, who has won the prestigious Motor Sports Association Young Driver of the Year Award and the European Rally Championship Colin McRae Flat Out Award on two occasions, is hoping success in Estonia will give him the springboard to eventually drive in the WRC (World Rally Championships).

He said: “It’s been a perfect first half of the season and it feels great to be not only representing the Brits but to be leading the championship against some of the best drivers in Europe.

"If I win the next race I stand a fantastic chance of winning the European rally which would be such a great achievement for me at this stage in my career.”

Ingram signed with German factory team Opel Motorsport at the start of the year and is hoping his success in this year’s championship can lead to a bright future in the sport.

He added: “To compete at this level in Motorsport as a normal 22-year-old lad requires total dedication but when results are achieved it makes all of the hard work worthwhile and gives me the motivation to aim high in the sport.

“I hope to win the European Championships this year then hopefully I can eventually achieve my dream of competing in the World Rally Championships in a few years’ time.”

The European Rally Championships are live on Eurosport tomorrow.
