THERE is plenty of Trafford representation in the England Under-19 men's lacrosse team heading to the world championships in Canada this weekend.
The team will be taking on teams from Canada, USA (winners of all of the previous tournaments), Iroquois Nationals, Australia, Israel, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany, Mexico, Spain, China, Ireland, Scotland and Korea at the tournament which starts today in Coquitlam close to Vancouver.
As lacrosse receives no funding, the boys have been working, studying, training and fundraising as the total cost of the trip is £4,500 per team member.
The players in the squad are Freddie Atkins, Josh Blower, Grady Jackson-Fayle, Daniel Walker, Elliott Hurry (all Timperley), Joseph Cara, Tim Collins. Elliott Hurry, Oliver Curtis, Hal Dwobeng, Ben Lage-Laycock, James Ready, Sam Dyson, Matthew Tatton, George Walker, Sam Wilks (all Brooklands), Joe Chorlton, Alex Russell (Poynton), Elliott Leonard (Norbury), Jake Parker (Mellor), Aaron Longley, Daniel Matthews (Rochdale) and James Pomfret (Stockport).
