THE Australian flag will be flying high at Bowdon Rugby Club this Sunday.

Bowdon Rugby Club will play host to the Australian team during the 2016 Under 20s World Rugby Championship, which runs from June 7-25 at Manchester City Academy Stadium.

Bowdon RUFC was chosen as one of the host clubs for the championship and will be providing training and hosting facilities for the national Australian squad.

To welcome the Aussies, the Clay Lane club will be hosting a public ceremony on Sunday June 5.

The teammates will be greeted by an U6s and U7s Guard of Honour, speeches will be given by sporting leaders, including the president of Bowdon RUFC Kevin Fallon and president of Cheshire RFU Paul Warrington, as well as Trafford Council leader Cllr Sean Anstee.

Tenor Martin Toal will be leading the crowd in a number of performances, including ‘World in Union’, ‘Jerusalem’, and ‘Advance Australia Fair’.

The Australian squad will also be presented with participation medals and the team will in turn hand out medals to Bowdon club teams.

The ceremony will kick-off at around 1.30pm, wrapping up at 3pm.
