URMSTON youngster Arin Sekirden is the new English wrestling champion for his age group.

The eight-year-old scooped the title just a little over a year since first taking up the sport.

Arin, who attends Kingsway Primary School, competed in his first tournament last August, just five months after entering the sport and is now national champion.

Proud mum Paula Woods told SUM: "Arin started wrestling in March 2015 and competed in his first competition in August.

"He has won a total of two bronze medals, two silvers and two golds and now holds the title of English champion."

Arin trains with his cousin Liam Husband, who is also eight and attends Woodhouse Primary School in Urmston.

Liam won bronze at the English championships to add to his three golds and one silver medal from previous competitions.

The boys train at the Y club in Manchester and Bolton Olympic Wrestling Club, with some private training from World of Sport legend Marty Jones.

Paula added: "They currently train up to four times a week.

"Both boys love wrestling, love training and have a massive passion for a sport that doesn't always get as much publicity as it should."
