BROOKLANDS Cricket Club's first XI won their fourth league game in a row against Barrow to move to the top of Division Two of the Cheshire County League.

The weather reduced the game to 35 overs per side and Barrow, who chose to bat first, were all out for 147 in 34.5 overs with their West Indian overseas player Marlon Barclay scoring 64, supported by 29 from Iro De Silva.

For Brooklands, Rob Leach moved seamlessly up from the second XI and took 4-24, with important support from Dan Duke (2-21) and Marl Law (2-32).

Brooklands got over the line with four balls to spare with a first half century of the season for opener Jack Bagshaw (62) and good efforts from Nick Little (23) and Doug Whyley (18 not out) who, with eight needed to win off the last over, belted the first ball for six.

Sunday was not quite as successful in the Cheshire Cup derby against Sale.

Again the match was weather-affected and reduced to 30 overs a side.

The visitors chose to bat first and got to 156-6 courtesy of strong batting displays from Brooke Guest (54) and stand-in skipper Tyrone Lawrence (57), with Mark Law (3-36) again the leading wicket-taker. Brooklands did not bat.

The second and fourth teams fell victim to the weather on their respective days.

The third XI started but did not finish at Haslingden seconds.

Paul Vesey's 55 was the stand-out performance in their 146-8 from their 45 overs but the weather prevented the hosts from starting their innings.
