TIMPERLEY Hockey Club are celebrating again after their senior women’s team added the Cheshire Cup to their Northern Premier League title.

A memorable eight months for the Stockport Road club was topped off with a 3-1 cup final success against local rivals, Brooklands HC, thanks to goals from appropriately named, Kate Goalen plus Jess Mortimer and Lexi Panteli.

The glory girls, who wrapped up their league triumph with a game to spare, have also been nominated for England Hockey’s women’s team of the year.

“This is the first time in the club’s 130-year history we’ve had a team promoted to the National League,” said proud captain Sophie Robinson, who was instrumental in securing what proved a lucky shirt sponsorship deal with award-winning Greater Manchester company, Thermal Road Repairs.

“With only one promotion place up for grabs, the commitment needed to reach the national level of our sport has been huge.

“We narrowly missed out on promotion 12 years ago, so it’s been a long haul to be in contention for top spot.

“So, to win it like we did, losing only two league games all season, was a massive achievement.

"To top it off by winning the Cheshire Cup is fantastic.

“We know it will be tough next season but we would rather accept the challenge than not have it at all.

“And I have got to say a big thank you to Thermal Road Repairs for sponsoring the kit this season.

"I was reluctant to tell them how well we were doing since they came on board in case I jinxed it but they have definitely been a lucky omen for us.”
