BOWDON Lawn Tennis Club can proudly boast many rising stars amongst its young cohort.

The conclusion to an exciting winter season saw the club triumph by taking the top positions in the Under 8 Aegon Winter League County Cup.

In a fiercely contested final, Team Nadal claimed a 12-4 victory over their friends and rivals, Team Federer, securing coveted first and second placings for the Elcho Road club.

Team Nadal’s Matthew Hopley, Zach Thompson, Sebby Hooton, Andreas Stylianides gave Team Federer’s Sam Kilvert, Susanna Thompson, Joe Spencer, Jake Davies a good game.

Noah Leary, Harry Matthews and Eva Senior also played an integral role in the success of both teams during the season.

Head Coach Emma Silcock said: “Both teams played with courage and determination. Every player conjured up performances worthy of a young Andy Murray or Johanna Konta.

“I feel immensely privileged to have coached such committed children for many years. What am I most proud of? Their continued good sportsmanship and team spirit. This is just the beginning for our young players.”

Bowdon Lawn Tennis Club hope that the achievement, coupled with the success of the British Tennis team in winning the Davis Cup, will continue to promote tennis as an inclusive sport that players of all ages and abilities can enjoy.
