TRAFFORD followed up a spirited display at home to play-off chasers Northwich Victoria at the weekend with a comprehensive 3-0 win strugglers Radcliffe Borough on Tuesday night.

The Shawe View men twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Vics, who are fourth in Evo-Stik First Division North, then built on that performance with goals from Liam Davies, leading scorer Chris McDonagh and Chris Palmer to see off Boro.

Radcliffe had been on a decent run of form but after some tight opening exchanges Trafford took control of the match in the 13th minute when Davies rifled a superb angled drive into the roof of the net from 15 yards.

They doubled their lead 10 minutes later when right-back Kyle Jacobs floated a great cross to the back post where McDonagh controlled neatly and coolly placed the ball into the opposite corner for his 19th goal of the season.

Mitchell Bryant saw a goalbound shot deflected over while McDonagh volleyed straight at Boro keeper Chris Cheetham from 15 yards as Trafford pored on the pressure before the break.

They continued their dominance in the second half when Aaron Burns rounded Cheetham but saw his shot cleared off the line by Nathan Valentine.

Two minutes later Palmer capped another magnificent performance when he stepped inside a defender and unleashed a cracking low drive that flew into the bottom corner.

And Bryant should have made it four when he headed against the crossbar from close range.

Goals from McDonagh and substitute Aaron Burns, who scored Trafford's second equaliser of the game with five minutes to play, secured an excellent point on Saturday.

Alex Byrne put Vics in front after only two minutes, capitalising on poor defending by the hosts to rifle a shot into the top corner from 15 yards.

Seven minutes later Trafford were level when McDonagh turned the ball in from a seemingly offside position after Chris Palmer’s mishit shot fell kindly to him.

Stuart Cook restored the visitors' lead in the 29th minute when his cross-shot from the left flew over Russ Saunders and into the top corner.

Saunders produced a fine save to thwart a close range shot by giant striker Richard Bennett at the start of the second half and in the 57th minute Vics substitute James Ball mis-kicked from 15 yards when in acres of space.

Brian Summerskill struck a fierce low drive that was held at full length by Saunders and the under fire Trafford keeper then produced another superb save from a Bennett header.

The final twenty minutes belonged entirely to Trafford with manager Tom Baker introducing substitutes Mark Derbyshire and Burns to the fray and in the 85th minute they combined superbly as Burns broke clear and crashed a great drive past the advancing Mason Springthorpe.

Baker’s Boys should have snatched a winner in the dying seconds as they broke away down the centre but with players to spare Palmer agonisingly misdirected his pass and the danger was cleared.

Four point in the week moved Trafford into 10th, 10 points outside the play-off places. The manager will be hoping for a repeat performance on Saturday when Trafford entertain Bamber Bridge at Shawe View and then on Easter Monday when they make the short journey to play the reverse fixture against Northwich Victoria. Both games kick off at 3pm.
