JAMES Duke’s Saturday brace set Urmston Hockey Club's men’s first XI on their way to a perfect weekend as they took six points from two games against tough opposition.

Duke was joined on the scoresheet by a penalty stroke from Robin Cooper in a 3-0 win against West Derby Men’s first XI.

Jonathon Downes continued to show his huge potential with a mature man-of-the-match performance while Kris Wood picked up a green card.

On Sunday, two more strokes from Cooper, another for Duke and a goal for Ollie Cooper helped the team to a crucial win against promotion hopefuls Wilmslow Men’s firsts.

Chris Martin turned in an assured man-of-the-match performance with Scott Bailey tackling his way to a yellow card.

Elsewhere, Danielle Harvey’s brace rescued the ladies’ first XI after they found themselves a goal down to Didsbury Northern Ladies’ seconds.

Despite dominating the majority of the match, Didsbury broke the deadlock first before Harvey’s late show pulled home all three points with Lois Oliver picking up the players’ player award.

The men’s thirds sealed a crucial 5-1 win against Bowdon Men’s eights with captain Tom Frame and Josh Edwards marking their long-awaited returns with goals.

They were joined on the scoresheet by Chris Seed, Mike Tonge and Matt Podmore with Jim Mair picking up players’ player and Tom Raikes impressive as captain’s player.

Dan Downes scored as a depleted Men’s seconds fell 7-1 to West Derby seconds in a tough game for the Greens despite Josh Weaver’s impressive display.

Opposition player Isobel Seed’s hat-trick couldn’t save the ladies’ seconds as they fell 5-3 to Didsbury Northern Ladies’ fifths despite impressive performances from sisters Faye and Grace Wilson.

Meanwhile, the Ladies thirds fell 5-0 to a strong league-leading Didsbury Northern sixths side with Faye Wilson picking up another players’ player award.

Gabrielle Weaver shone in midfield while Tamsin Greig impressed Didsbury as oppositions’ player.
