SALE Ladies Hockey Club's first team beat Triton 5-0 to register victory in Cheshire Women's League Division One.

There was a frenetic start to the game from Sale who attacked at will with goals from Hannah Aldridge and Leanne Edwards putting them 2-0 up.

The fast pace meant Sale lost their shape at times but the defence mopped up any breakthroughs.

Aldridge scored again before the break to give Sale a comfortable half-time lead.

They were more composed in the second period and concentrated on passing and positional play.

More goals came from Harriet Boswell and Katy Levy taking the score to 5-0 at the finish.

Elsewhere, the thirds played two games over the weekend.

First up on Saturday was a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Triton thirds in Cheshire Women's League Division Four.

Sale had a strong line-up against the bottom club but although they had a lot of the possession and controlled the game, Triton thirds had significantly improved since the last time the teams met.

In the first half Sale were reliant on long balls but improved in the second half, playing for possession and building with short passes.

The only goal came when Lisa Bennett Thornton connected with a pass in from Emma Gardiner and dinked it over the line.

The following day, Sale went down 5-3 in a rearranged fixture at Lymm.

A depleted thirds squad faced a Lymm team with a big selection pool to their advantage.

And had it not been for Sale stopper Danni Boothman, it could have been a heavier defeat.

To their credit, Sale battled hard despite the relentless pressure and kept fighting right to the end.
