TRAFFORD MV ended 2015 in style with an emphatic 87-7 win at North Manchester which see's them go into the New Year topping Lancashire (North) League.

A series of good performances has seen MV get to the halfway mark without losing a game although there is much still to do as they still have to face title contenders Littleborough twice in the run-in.

In heavy conditions on Saturday, MV started brightly and Gareth Davison was the first to score before coach Stuart Crampton converted.

MV were winning ball seemingly at will and attacks were constant.

A turnover ball saw quick hands shift the ball to number eight Danny Burke who strolled over for his first try then centre Jack Gallagher, returning from a sabbatical in Canada, scored next following good play from hooker Ross Anderson.

The writing was on the wall as North Manchester lost a player with no subs and MV cashed in again as prop Joe Cooper crossed the whitewash for the bonus point with Crampton converting.

Burke grabbed his second when good pressure forced a spilled ball over the defending try line which was there to be dropped on and Crampton again converted.

MV were looking dangerous all over the park and when Gaz Bevan and Ben Wheeler interlinked in open play the defence parted for Wheeler to stroll home, converting his own try to make it 38-0 at half time.

After the break, MV took the game to the hosts again and two quick tries from centre Gallagher and full-back Bevan increased the lead.

Then prop Cooper went on a long run but ran out of legs just short of the line to pop the ball off to Burke who completed his hat-trick

The second treble of the day came soon after when Gallagher took a close-range crash ball and burst through flailing tackles to score.

Hooker Anderson was having his best game of the season and was rewarded when good footwork saw him jink out of defence in his own 22 for the field to open in front of him and a long-range try was the outcome before Wheeler converted.

North Manchester had lost another player and with only 13 men it was a really tough afternoon for the spirited home side. Crampton romped in from 50 metres and this was followed by Anderson and WHeeler with their second scores and Burke for his fourth of the game.

Late in the game North Manchester managed to scrape a consolation but the contest had been over for some time.

MV's other two sides had much-closer contest with a weakened 2nd XV losing 11-8 to a last minute try against Littleborough, while the 3rd XV extended their run of good form with an 8-0 triumph against Whitchurch.
