TRAFFORD FC boss Tom Baker insists his side 'can beat any team on their day'.

The Shawe View side sent out a signal of their intent to challenge for promotion from the First Division North of the Evostik League after defeating early pace-setters Northwich Victoria 2-0 in the Doodson Cup on Tuesday night.

Now he is backing his side to mount a bid to go up from ninth position in the table.

He said: "We have not got to Christmas yet and I think it is still early days.

"There are lots of points to play for.

"We know we need to put a run together but we have got to stop losing games.

"There have only been a couple we deserved to lose but the others have been down to individual errors or have brought them on ourselves.

"That is one of the things we have to improve on,

"However, we have to think that this is still a new squad who have not played with each other before this season.

"They are getting used to each other and I am only four months into my first job and we are learning.

"Beating Northwich shows we can beat any team on our day but also on an off day we can lose to anyone."

There have been a few changes behind the scenes at Trafford as Chris Denham has stood down as assistant manager but Baker believes he has a replacement who can help boost their challenge.

He said: "Chris is a good friend and has done a really good job.

"Football can be very demanding and he has a lot of things going on in his life.

"He thought it was best for all parties to stand down.

"I have brought in Chris Shuker and I have known him for quite some time.

"He has got a lot of experience and was Micky Adams' assistant at Tranmere Rovers so he will hopefully help us."
