TRAFFORD shaded their Integro Doodson Sports Cup First Round Tie on Tuesday night with 2-1 win against Salford City.

Visiting manager Tom Baker made five changes to the side that drew at Brighouse on Saturday whilst Salford turned out a completely different 11to those that defeated Notts County in the FA Cup on Friday night.

And it took Trafford just seven minutes to take the lead when Dimitri Tuanzebe rifled a great drive into the top corner from 25 yards after poor defending by the hosts.

Sam Noah then fired into the side-netting from a great position and Luke Horrocks shot straight at Ben Purdham as Trafford dominated and it came as no surprise in the 32nd minute when they doubled their advantage, Purdham spilling a Chris Palmer cross from the right and debutant Ashley Stott pouncing to tap home from six yards.

Josh Granite should have done better when he headed wide at the back post following a Palmer free kick and in the 41st minute Tuanzebe was pulled down by Elliott Kebbie but blasted the resultant penalty well over the crossbar.

Salford came more into the game in the second half and Richie Allen, scorer of a breathtaking goal on Friday night, saw a goal ruled out for offside in the 65th minute.

The hosts now had their tails up and two minutes later a fine move ended with Joe Mwasile bursting through on the right and firing just inside the far post.

Chris Sharp was then denied an equaliser by a fine block by Russ Saunders and in the 72nd minute Luke Clark flighted a free kick over from a great position.

Trafford defended superbly for the remainder of the game to hold onto their single goal advantage and in the dying seconds Lee Rick was sent clear by Jack Dorney but his touch deserted him and Purdham gathered.

Manager Baker was delighted to progress into the Second Round at the expense of such illustrious opposition.

Meanwhile at the weekend, Jack Dorney's penalty deep into stoppage time salvaged a well-deserved point for Trafford in an entertaining game at Brighouse.

The Shawe View side started brightly with debutant Luke Horrocks almost rounded off a slick move for Trafford.

Simon Woolford and Dorney went close at the end of the first half.

But Brighouse took the lead against the run of play when Ernest Boafo rounded keeper Russ Saunders and fired into the net.

With time running out, centre-back James Hurtley handled the ball and gave the referee no option but to point to the spot.

Manager Tom Baker will now be turning his thoughts to Saturday’s vital Evo Stik League fixture against Mossley at Shawe View, kick off 3pm.
