JAKE Moult scored a goal of the season contender to salvage a point against Torquay and put Altrincham in the mood for Saturday's eagerly-awaited FA Cup first-round clash with League One Barnsley at The J.Davidson Stadium.

Alty were trailing to a first-half goal when midfielder Moult met a half-cleared James Lawrie corner with a stunning 35-yard volley that flew into the top corner.

"There are different types to consider for best goal of the season, but that will take some beating for strike of the season," enthused Alty boss Sinnott.

"As a sweet spot strike, it was absolutely superb.

"I had a laugh with Moulty after the game, because he gave me a bit of a dirty look after I chastised him over something or other. I can't remember exactly what, but it would have been a defensive matter. "Literally two minutes later, he sticks it in the top corner, so that's not a bad way of shutting me up!

"It was wonderful technique and a wonderful strike.

"It was just unstoppable. The speed it was hit and the way it moved away from the keeper, no-one was going to pull that out of the air.

"You've got to back yourself in those situations, and Jake never lacks confidence in that regard.

"I always tell the players I will take any flak for having a shot from distance, because you've got to buy a ticket to have a chance.

"Fair play to Jake, he certainly bought one. In fact, you could say he came up with the golden ticket."

Alty will give key winger Nicky Clee every chance of being fit for the visit of Barnsley.

"Nicky needs seven days rest after an injection in his groin, and that takes us pretty much up to the end of the week, so it's going to be a late shout," said Sinnott.

"It's not as bad as it has been, but it needs a a week to settle down, so we'll see how we are then."
