ALTRINCHAM Kersal Under-15s produced a superb performance to secure a 14-5 victory against reigning Cheshire champions Wilmslow.
The early exchanges showed Kersal digging deep in their own half to repel Wilmslow's attacks as they maintained a strong defensive line.
Tom Sullivan scored a try which was converted by Tom Gill to give Kersal a well-deserved half-time lead.
Both teams continued to battle inexhaustibly throughout an intense second half.
Despite Wilmslow enjoying the majority of the possession, it was Kersal who added to their lead when Will Holland scampered over to score close to the posts.
Gill added a conversion to put Kersal 14-0 ahead.
Wilmslow dominated possession and territory, but were foiled by the intensity of Kersal’s defence.
The reigning champs eventually scored out wide despite a number of try saving tackles.
Kersal hung on and the final whistle sounded a famous victory.
A spokesman for the club said: "The team gave 100 per cent and showed excellent decision making qualities and coolness under pressure."
