TRAFFORD MV consolidated top spot in the Lancashire (North) league after wining 70-13 against Ormskirk at MacPherson Park.

With only minutes on the clock MV won a lineout on their own throw for Paul Davenport to be driven over from close range 5-0 to MV.

This was the spur the hosts needed and it was not long before good hands saw the ball arrive with winger Zak Crabb who left his opponent standing to extend to 10-0.

MV turned the screw winning plenty of ball and stretching the Ormskirk defence.

Next on the scoresheet was prop Joe Cooper who burst through a gaping defence for his first try for MV following his return from Lymm.

Pat Eccles added the extras but at the other end Ormskirk scraped a penalty to avoid a blank scoreline.

MV touched down three more times before the interval, as Pat Eccles secured the bonus point, followed by Andrew Moore and Paul Davenport's second of the match.

Eccles added the conversions to make it 39-3 at the half time.

The second period opened in the visitors favour when a well rehearsed line out caught MV cold for a deserved try 39-8.

Danny Burke responded for MV following good support play but Ormskirk were still having a go and their Number 8 broke off a maul to force his way in 44-13.

Burke scored his second and Davenport was excelling picking up his hat-trick score, with Ben Wheeler's kicks taking MV to 59-13.

The pressure was not easing and the pace from MV had really taken it's toll as Ormskirk chased shadows in the setting sun.

Substitute Jamie Kingdon impressed as he burst through the centre with defenders hanging off to power over the line.

Davenport rounded off a superb try scoring performance from him as he crossed in the dying minutes for his fourth try of the game to seal a resounding win and MV's second consecutive 70-point win.
