MANCHESTER Giants are delighted to announce the signing of British Basketball League star Olu Babalola.

The Giants have added the 6ft 6ins forward to their roster for the 2015/16 season.

Player/coach Yorick Williams is pleased to have been able to recruit a player he regards as a leader.

Babalola, 33, has won BBL championship, Cup and Trophy medals with Sheffield Sharks, Mersey Tigers and Newcastle Eagles.

Williams said; β€œI have known Olu a long time and know him as an experienced, talented player and a winner.

β€œHe will add a great deal to what we are try to achieve at the club and will be a superb role model for some of our younger players.”

London-born Bablola joins Stefan Gill, Ingus Bankevics, Anthony Purcell and Ryan Lewis, who have re-signed with the club from last season.

Williams has also brought in shooting guard Reiss Haggith and hopes to be able to announce further signings in the coming weeks.

The news comes just weeks after the Giants announced two further additions to head coach Yorick Williams' roster.

Forward Ryan Lewis and guard Anthony Purcell return to the club from last season.

Lewis, a 6ft 6ins forward who played for Birmingham Knights in the BBL before joining the Giants last season, is back.

And Manchester-born guard Purcell, a fixture with the club since the return to the BBL in 2012 is also back on board for his fourth season with the Giants.

Williams said: "It's great to be able to add these two players to those those we have already signed for the new season.

"They have both worked really hard and done everything I've asked of them so far and it wasn't a difficult decision to sign them up."

The Giants have already brought back Stefan Gill and Ingus Bankevics from last season and added former Leicester junior Reiss Haggith.

Off the court, Mike Nicholls has also been lined up to be the assistant coach to Yorick Williams.
