URMSTON CC won the inaugural ECB NatWest Lancashire Under-19s Cup with two great victories at the competitions Finals Day at Southport CC on Sunday.

Urmston faced Littleborough CC in their semi final and they restricted Littleborough to 127-7 with 15-year old Aaron Moore taking 3-34.

In reply, Urmston were indebted to skipper Calum Turner who scored a superb 50 as the team survived a late collapse to win the tie by three wickets with 15 balls to spare.

In the final, the UCG outfit took on Longridge CC.

Having lost the toss Urmston bowled first and, despite a second wicket stand of 75, stuck to their task and worked hard to restrict Longridge to 140-5.

The pick of the bowlers was Sam Dillon who took 3-11 runs.

Urmston set about chasing down this total with relish as opener Brad Yates smote four massive sixes in a 24-ball 50 and was ably assisted by Callum Parkinson with 42 not out to steer Urmston to victory with 21 balls to spare.

Skipper Calum Turner picked up the trophy from Lancashire Women's Captain Jasmine Titmuss.

Coaches Rob Arnold and Joey O'Connor put the success down to the hard work of a large squad of players who got us through the early rounds and it was pleasing to be able to field a team on Finals Day that included five current 1st team cricketers and three Under-15s.

Elsewhere, some very tight bowling saw the first team restrict Cheadle Hulme to 149-6 off 50 overs.

Callum Parkinson, who received the leagues player of the month for June on the day took 2-86 and was well supported by Zeeshan Assi with 2-19 and Calum Turner 2-42.

Another great innings from Calum Turner 80 not out and Callum Parkinson 53 not out saw Urmston ease to victory by nine wickets closing the gap to promotion rivals Timperley to only 30 points with five matches left.
