STRETFORD'S tail wagged and nearly brought them an unlikely victory on Sunday against Stand CC.

Stretford’s lack of an opening bowler meant Stand got off to a good start and were 106-2, when spin twins Stephen Green and Danie Van Schoor started to make inroads.

Stand finished their innings on 194 with Van Schoor taking 4-79 and Stephen Green 6-51.

Stretford’s reply started poorly and Ibrar Latif was the victim of an LBW decision.

The ever-dependable Chris Sharp scored 33 and the captain Wasim Zafar’s good run of form continued with him making 31.

But wickets fell regularly and Stretford were on the edge of defeat at 120-8.

Matt Armstong, aged 14, partnered 17-year-old Alex Grant and then Ben Riddell to take Stretford close to the Stand total, unfortunately Grant was run out and Stretford fell 12 runs short on 183.
